DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.40:1 DVD picture looks great, with sharp and nicely detailed images into backgrounds. Colors are rich and vibrant, with accurate fleshtones, and deep blacks. Contrast and shadow delineation are well balanced, with excellent visual information in the darker scenes. At times, images are surrounded by an edge of enhancement, but many scenes are free from its distraction. There is very little pixelization or shimmering for a solid visual experience. Soundtrack:
The audio presentation is a wonderful recording, and the use of the spatial soundstage is appropriately liberal and energetic, during the appropriate moments. The on-stage performances, in particular, impart the feel and raw emotion of being in a heavy metal concert. The low-end associated with the music is amply deep and prominent at times, with active engagement of the .1 LFE. In the absence of the music, the soundfield is amply wide and enveloping, with the exception of some dialogue-focused scenes. The dialogue sounds natural and presented at a comfortable listening level. (Perry Sun)
