    Story Synopsis:
    Rookie Of The Year is a delightfully funny and warmhearted sort of old-fashioned fantasy story about a twelve-year-old baseball enthusiast, Henry Rowengartner (Thomas Ian Nicholas), who becomes a pitcher for a professional baseball team. The young talent can throw the meanest pitch recordable which impresses the Chicago Cubs, until Henry breaks his arm. But alas, when the cast is removed, Henry miraculously becomes a world champion, attaining his dream to play with the Cubs after all, living up to be the youngest relief pitcher in Major League history.

    DVD Picture:
    The anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVD picture is slightly soft and smeared, with apparent noise reduction that contributes to the lack of fine detail. Colors are rich, at times bordering oversaturation, and blacks are generally deep and solid. Minor edge enhancement and pixelization are noticed for a visual experience that is generally unimpressive for an anamorphic DVD, though a definite improvement over the LaserDisc.     I love to read WSR because of the straightforward, professional equipment reviews. I also LOVE the DVD reviews. As a home theatre fanatic, I want to know the technical and quality aspects of my future purchase/rental DVDs with just a brief synopsis of what the movie is about. Other home theatre publications spend way too much space reviewing the movie itself. I will make my own judgments on the merits of the movie, what I want from my magazine is some insight on how the DVD will sound and look on my system. WSR gives the reader just that. GREAT mag!
