Subscribe FreeForty years old and tired of her domineering husband, Madame Wu (Yan) arranges for a younger second wife to take her place. Madame Wu finds that not only is she free from her husband and his sexual needs but she has more time for herself, as well. An American missionary and doctor (Dafoe) is helping her son with his studies, and Madame Wu is fascinated with his stories of the western world. As they spend more time together, their feelings for each other grow, and she finds herself and life as she has known it changing, much to the disdain of her son and her husband. Adapted from the novel by Pearl S. Buck. (Tricia Littrell)
