Story Synopsis:
This is not a book of hymns from the Old Testament, this is a testimony of the individual members who created and sustained the band Genesis. The Genesis Songbook walks viewers through the evolution of the band. In the beginning, there were three men: Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford. They had a vision for well-written music, and it was good. And the song-yielding band made music. And it was good. But, behold, Peter Gabriel left the band and its fruitful future, in search of a Grammy of his own. So...the sound of Genesis would be preserved by the voice of Phil Collins (and much later, Ray Wilson). Includes chaptered segments separate from the main feature. (Suzanne Hodges)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78:1 DVD picture exhibits suitable image quality, as footage is, appropriately, of varying qualities. Overall, images are generally sharp, but fine details and definition are wanting. At times, the picture can look smeared and totally undefined. New interviews with long-standing and former members of the band are of generally pleasing quality, while the included concert footage, in both color and black-and-white, ranges from mediocre to downright poor. Still, this documentary seems to be something that would thrill long-time fans of Genesis. (Suzanne Hodges)
