Story Synopsis:
Written, directed and narrated by Woody Allen, Radio Days is a warmhearted and nostalgic backward glance at an era before TV, when radio stood predominantly at the heart of American pop culture. The story is told by Joe (Seth Green), a humble Long Island kid with a less than perfect family and whose idol is a radio superhero. With World War II looming, it is an era when sophisticated Manhattan personalities along with the less financially fortunate, are compelled by the same fantasies and aspirations that are fueled over the airwaves. Exquisitely woven together with old broadcasts and a rich mix of vintage tunes, Radio Days is a truly touching light comedy.
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVD exhibits a picture that has a dated appearance, obviously stylized for the setting of the movie. Images are generally sharp, and detail should be satisfying, though limited at times. Colors have s slightly undersaturated appearance, and appear well balanced with the brownish overtones. There is some loss of detail caused by apparent noise reduction. Edge enhancement is infrequent, and there is some pixelization. The source element is revealing of film grain and artifacts. (Suzanne Hodges)
Soundtrack:
The Dolby Digital 2.0 soundtrack is big fat mono. When Pro Logic-decoded, the audio is properly placed in the center channel. The audio is basically undistinguished, and is presented with no noticeable anomalies other than the dated fidelity. (Perry Sun)
