Story Synopsis:
Historically important as the first movie released in CinemaScope, The Robe is based on the novel by Lloyd C. Douglas, and is one of the first of many Biblical epics. Marcellus Gallio (Burton) is a centurion in charge of Christ

DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.55:1 DVD exhibits a dated picture that can be generally sharp, but is often wanting in fine detail. Colors are generally rich and well balanced, with nicely rendered fleshtones and generally deep blacks. At times images appear smeared, but the effect is due to loss of detail caused by apparent noise reduction. Edge enhancement can be distracting at times.
