DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVDs are generally sharp, but detail and definition can be lacking at times. Colors are well balanced, with nicely rendered fleshtones and generally deep blacks. Color saturation is a bit inconsistent, at times seeming a bit undersaturated. There are some scenes which are intentionally hazy and soft. Shadow delineation is lacking. The picture has a dated appearance, aided by the presence of source element artifacts and minor film grain. The extended version (available on the Limited Edition) was transferred from the best element known to exist, but sequences from the theatrical version have been used to augment the lesser quality of the original analog tape. Clearly, the difference in quality is evident, but fans will appreciate the opportunity to see an alternate cut. (Suzanne Hodges)
