Story Synopsis:
Visually told through dance and orchestra (with no English subtitles) this is a strange twist on The Sleeping Beauty. Strange referring to the simple stage props and Mats Ek choreography, which some may find bizarre, especially being set to classical Tchaikovsky music. At the same time, many should be thrilled with the different approach to the classic tale performed by the Cullberg Ballet/Swedish National Touring Theatre. (Suzanne Hodges)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78:1 DVD picture serves the presentation just fine. Images are sharp, with nicely rendered detail and definition. The simple backgrounds exhibit smooth, solid colors, and the color scheme overall is well balanced, with accurate fleshtones and deep blacks. There is a bit of edge enhancement, but nothing that is too distracting. Occasional shimmering is noticed in the finer details. The visuals and dances truly are strange. (Suzanne Hodges)
