Story Synopsis:
Vigilante is a graphically violent, action-packed thriller from director William Lustig. The plot involves your archetype loneman who seeks revenge for the slaughter of a loved one, amidst crooked bureaucrats, ineffective police, mafia lords and assorted violent criminals.
DVD Picture:
Compared to the non-anamorphic DVD reviewed in Issue 38, the anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD exhibits a smoother picture, with slightly improved contrast and color fidelity. While the picture looks dated, colors are consistently balanced, with accurate fleshtones, though blacks are slightly weak. Images are generally sharp, and detail can be nicely rendered. Contrast is a bit low, and the darker scenes are wanting in more visual information. There is some minor edge enhancement noticed, as well as some occasional pixelization. Still, picture quality is improved over the previous version, and this DVD comes with new special features and better soundtracks to boot. (Suzanne Hodges)
