DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78:1 DVD exhibits a slightly sharper picture when compared to the previously reviewed LaserDisc (Issue 28), but color fidelity is quite similar. Viewed alone, the picture has a dated appearance, with images that are generally sharp, but lacking in fine detail and definition. Colors can appear somewhat oversaturated and plugged-up, while othertimes bland. Blacks are undefined. Contrast and shadow delineation are generally limited. Source element dirt, grain, and artifacts are revealed. Edge enhancement is occasionally noticed. (Suzanne Hodges)
