DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVD exhibits excellent imagery that effectively illustrates the 18th century setting of the story. Despite a slightly dim character, contrast and shadow delineation are well balanced. The picture has a soft style, but detail is nicely rendered nonetheless. The color scheme exhibits pale green overtones, affecting whites and fleshtones, but since the film mostly centers around asylum, the stylized colors seem appropriate. Some edge enhancement is noticed, but there is no distracting pixelization. (Suzanne Hodges)
