DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.40:1 DVD exhibits generous improvements over the LaserDisc reviewed in Issue 13. The imagery is absolutely breathtaking. Colors are rich and powerful, with lush greens and deep, solid blacks. Fleshtones are well balanced throughout. The occasional black-and-white scenes are dramatically effective. Though not terribly intrusive, edge enhancement is nonetheless a problem in some scenes and is really the only. Otherwise, the picture is near pristine. A few minor source element artifacts are noticed. (Suzanne Hodges)
Soundtrack:
The soundtrack presentation, though a bit dated-sounding, has a wonderful, spacious presence, in particular with Kitaro
