DVD Picture:
The non-anamorphic 1.60:1 DVD picture exhibits a washed out gray scale with weak blacks. If ever there was a DVD that resembles a newspaper in gray scale, this would be it. The image is dated and wanting in sharpness. Detail is lacking throughout, with visual information in the shadows almost seeming like a black & white rendition of paint-by-number. Edge enhancement is noticed throughout-not that it helps. Print scratches and artifacts are apparent throughout, and aliasing problems are occasionally noticed.
Soundtrack:
The Dolby(r) Digital 1.0 soundtrack is not always pleasurable to experience at reference level. Distortion is prevalent, and the fidelity is appropriately dated, but the audio has been restored to the extent that artifacts and background noise have been remarkably reduced. Dialogue is reasonably intelligible but the dubbing is flawed.
