DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVD exhibits an improved picture when compared to the non-anamorphic DVD reviewed in Issue 30. Images are slightly soft, but the Spinal Tap concert footage exhibits sharp images with vibrant colors. Outside the concert scenes, the mock-documentary footage is generally balanced with occasionally pumped up colors. Fine film grain and source element artifacts are revealed throughout. Compared to the previously reviewed DVD, clarity and sharpness are impressive, but viewed alone, the picture is quite solid, but not pristine.
