DVD Picture:
Compared to the oversaturated "painted" colors of the LaserDisc reviewed in Issue 15, the anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD is much more refined for a more natural appearance. Colors tend toward brownish hues, typical of westerns, but rich, vivid colors are also presented without bleeding. Edge enhancement is noticed, and can sometimes be a distraction. Bothersome source element artifacts and scratches are apparent throughout. Minor pixelization is apparent for an occasional hard edge. The majority of the film was originated in 65mm, though transferred from 35mm, and, for its age, the transfer looks good.
