DVD Picture:
Almodovar's films typically are done in vibrant colors on the verge of oversaturation. The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD with rich colors is no exception. Fleshtones are nicely balanced, though sometimes a bit reddish. Images are sharp and finely detailed, with nicely rendered background detail. The picture can be quite solid, even in the richest, most colorful background. However, shimmering is sometimes distracting. Some artifacts are noticed, but overall the picture is quite pleasing. Side B contains, oddly, a 1.66:1 pan-and-scan/partial letterbox version, which we have not reviewed.
