This David Cronenberg-directed version of The Fly stars Jeff Goldblum as Seth Brundle, the hapless scientist whose experimentation with teleportation mutates him into a grotesque fly-like creature. Geena Davis is Veronica Quaife, an intrepid journalist who fell in love with science-boy while covering his research, goes above and way beyond the call of girlfriend duty as she stands by her, um, man. (Laurie Sevano)
The anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVD exhibits good quality. Images are sharp and detailed, with nicely rendered background definition. Colors are mostly balanced, though fleshtones can appear a bit orange at times. The film has a dark, dingy character that seems appropriate for the content. Some dirt and artifacts are apparent, but nothing too distracting.
Reason #132 Why Readers Love Widescreen Review:
As an owner of Whole House Audio & Video Inc. (WHAV), I need to stay informed on the latest DVD and DVHS releases and keep an objective opinion on how well they perform. Of all the magazines and periodicals we receive, I constantly find myself reading WIDESCREEN REVIEW over all the others combined. The articles are well-written, thought-out, and accurate. I also find the Editors Couch and the equipment reviews very useful and informative. Thanks for producing a quality magazine without all the BS you find in most other publications.
