Story Synopsis:
The Hidden is a science fiction-action-horror-thriller about an inexplicable phenomenon that changes law-abiding citizens into hyper-violent psychopaths for no apparent reason. FBI agent Lloyd Gallagher (MacLachlan) teams with LAPD detective Tom Beck (Nouri) to solve a series of murders that have been committed by unlikely suspects.
DVD Picture:
The exaggerated color scheme on the LaserDisc reviewed in Issue 18 is more refined on the anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVD. Viewed through the component video output, the DVD picture is balanced with accurate fleshtones and deep black levels. Clarity, detail and definition are all improved on the DVD, while the LaserDisc appears smeared throughout. Contrast and shadow delineation are nicely rendered. Film grain is revealed throughout, but the transfer is quite clean, with little distracting pixelization.
