In late 1930's London the war to end all wars is brewing on the horizon and jobs are at a premium when governess, Guinevere Pettigrew (McDormand) finds herself unfairly dismissed from another assignment. At the employment agency Miss Pettigrew is told in no uncertain terms that she is completely unemployable. In a moment of desparation, Guinevere intercepts a new work assignment that has just crossed the desk of her distracted employment agency counselor. The assigment is one of a social secretary for an up-and-coming Hollywood starlet, Delysia Lafosse (Adams), who needs Miss Pettigrew to keep her revolving door of suitors under wraps. So, for the first time in her life "Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day" as a high-society secretary instead of the dowdy middle-aged governess she has become. Based on the novel by Winifred Watson. (Stacey Pendry)
