  WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Jaguar Paw's (Youngblood) life as a peaceful hunter is forever changed when his remote village is attacked by the mighty Mayan kingdom, and he is chosen to be the human sacrifice to please the Gods that be. Determined to return to his expecting wife and young son, he will do whatever it takes to escape those who have imprisoned him, and it his vast knowledge of the surrounding forest that may just make his escape a reality. Apocalypto was inspired by ancient Mayan texts. (Jack Kelley)

DVD Picture:
The beautiful Mexican forests are delivered well in the anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVD, with brilliant hues, deep blacks, and good shadow delineation. Fine details in the presentation are captured and played back very well, and contrast is well balanced. Edge enhancement is not noticeable, but some minor pixelization can be noticed at times, which can give the image a digital look. This isn't consistent throughout the presentation but can be a distraction at times. (Danny Richelieu)

Soundtrack:
The Mayan-language Dolby
