Story Synopsis:
Henry Lesser (McDermott) is the sole tenant of a rundown Brooklyn tenement who is desperately trying to redeem himself with a novel. His landlord Levenspiel (Cassel) has been more than understanding, but his patience is wearing thin. One day, Lesser discovers he is not the only writer in the building when he hears the tapping typewriter of Willie Spearmint (Dogg), who has found a room down the hall in which to squat. But the last thing Levenspiel wants to hear is that The Tenants in his complex have multiplied, yet the rent remains the same. Based on the novel by Bernard Malamud. (Suzanne Hodges)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVD picture exhibits a nicely rendered color palette that is naturally balanced. Some scenes are stylized in cold blues or warm browns to complement a scene. While sometimes the picture is slightly soft, details and textures are adequate. Contrast and shadow delineation are also nicely rendered. Flecks of dirt and other minor artifacts are inherent in the source element. Pixelization is noticed at times, but edge halos are rarely a problem. (Suzanne Hodges)
