Story Synopsis:
Living in the remote and worlds-away village of Rooihoek in South Africa, Yesterday (Khumalo) is raising her seven-year-old daughter Beauty...who is just full of questions...while her husband is away mining. Having very little money and none of the conveniences that we take for granted, like adequate medical care, are the least of her worries when she discovers she is HIV positive. Journey with her as she confronts this often misunderstood illness, fighting each step to achieve a single goal--to see her daughter attend school. Nominated for Best Foreign Film at the 2005 Academy Awards, and sanctioned by the Nelson Mandela Foundation. (Jack Kelley)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78:1 DVD picture exhibits imagery that is often smooth and very nicely rendered. Images are sharp and detailed, with pleasing textures. Colors can be richly saturated and well balanced, with a very natural and warm appearance that is complementary to the African setting. Only occasionally does the picture appear smeared. Some edge enhancement and pixelization can be noticed. (Suzanne Hodges)
