While the savages are friendly enough at first, eventually a war breaks out and Captain Smith (Farrell) is captured. While he's with the natives he meets and falls in love with the lovely Pocahontas (Kilcher), but when the two are separated Pocahontas is led to believe that Captain Smith has died. Pocahontas marries John Rolfe (Bale), and hopes that she can get over her true love, but when she discovers that Smith is in fact alive her heart becomes once again filled with hope and confusion.
