Story Synopsis:
After arriving in "The New World" in the year 1607, the sailors are met by a group of "naturals" dressed in loin cloths and brandishing bows and arrows. While the savages are friendly enough at first, eventually a war breaks out and Captain Smith (Farrell) is captured. While he's with the natives he meets and falls in love with the lovely Pocahontas (Kilcher), but when the two are separated Pocahontas is led to believe that Captain Smith has died. Pocahontas marries John Rolfe (Bale), and hopes that she can get over her true love, but when she discovers that Smith is in fact alive her heart becomes once again filled with hope and confusion. (Tricia Spears)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD picture exhibits a hazy, slightly desaturated picture that nicely complements the atmospheric tale of exploration and star-crossed lovers. Images are sharp, with satisfying details and textures. Contrast and shadow delineation are also nicely rendered. Unfortunately, there is some pixelization and occasional edge halos noticed, which create a slightly harsh appearance at times. (Suzanne Hodges)
