Story Synopsis:
Based on the novel by Myla Goldberg, "Bee Season" is the story of a father's obsession with wanting his daughter to become the best that she can be. After winning a spelling bee, young Eliza (Cross) finally gets the attention she has been lacking from her obsessed and sometimes distant family. But as her father (Gere) continues to work with and coach his young daughter, his fixation on her talent distances himself and threatens to destroy the rest of his family. (Tricia Spears)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.32:1 DVD picture is quite lovely, with nicely saturated and well-balanced colors. Images are sharp and nicely detailed, although some scenes are softly focused for effect. Contrast and shadow delineation are very naturally balanced. There is some minor pixel breakup, but no bothersome edge enhancement. Overall, this is an easy-on-the-eyes picture that is perfectly satisfying for the storytelling. (Suzanne Hodges)
