Story Synopsis:
Good evening. In the early-1950s, Edward R. Murrow (Strathairn) bravely led the press in a fight against Senator Joseph McCarthy to exploit his wrongful accusations that certain Americans were Communists and security threats. Strathairn's subtle and serious Oscar
DVD Picture:
To enhance the period and seriousness of the storytelling, the anamorphically enhanced 1.78:1 DVD picture is presented in stark black-and-white. Archive footage is perfectly incorporated into the picture. The grayscale is beautifully balanced, with excellent gradation between deep blacks and bright whites. Images are sharp and detailed, with excellent contrast. Cigarette smoke is perfectly delineated as it drifts across detailed backgrounds. There is no obtrusive edge enhancement or bothersome pixelization. (Suzanne Hodges)
