DVD Picture:
After having been through an extensive restoration, The Agony And The Ecstasy still exhibits some dated characteristics, and the anamorphically enhanced 2.20:1 DVD picture is slightly soft and often lacking in fine detail and definition. Colors are rich and vibrant, but minor chroma bleeding is noticed. Fleshtones tend to appear a bit brownish at times and blacks are generally deep, but undefined. The intricate details of the mosaic tiles in Chapter 8 occasionally break up, but other times appear smeared. Still, this classic epic is not to be missed. (Suzanne Hodges)
