Story Synopsis:
While I hate using the excuse of "his childhood" as the root to all his problems, it's evident that his domineering mother (Margolyes) had a lot to do with Peter Sellers' (Rush) troubles. While onstage, the funnyman was loved and admired by all, but his personal life was filled with mood swings and obsessions that destroyed any chance of happiness he could ever hope to have. "The Life And Death Of Peter Sellers" is based on the book by Roger Lewis. (Tricia Spears)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78:1 DVD is stylized to often have a documentary-type of appearance. Black-and-white scenes shot to look like stock footage is mixed with slightly soft, hazy color imagery that has a nostalgic appearance. The darker scenes exhibit satisfying shadow delineation, and contrast is suitably rendered for different shots and moods. As the story progresses through different eras, the color scheme remains complementary. There is some minor edginess noticed at times, and occasional pixelization. Still, the picture is quite creative and appealing. (Suzanne Hodges)
