Special Features
Disc One of this two-disc special edition includes the theatrical trailer. Disc Two begins with the phan-tastic 65-minute Behind The Mask: The Story Of The Phantom Of The Opera, which features footage of early performances of the stage play before it premiered on Broadway; a 46-minute Making-Of The Phantom Of The Opera, which covers the premiere and looks back into casting and adapting the play for screen, designing the sets and costumes, and recording the album. There is also a two-minute additional scene and DVD-ROM enhancements. Just try not to laugh when you find and watch the hidden goodie: a five-minute cast and crew sing-along. These DVD supplements are a perfect example of quality over quantity!

The color scheme is well balanced, with natural fleshtones, rich and warm hues, and deep blacks. Reds pop from the screen with striking saturation, while snowy exteriors are cold and gray. The picture can have a slightly soft appearance at times, but details and textures are almost always better than adequate. Pixelization is rarely a problem and edge enhancement is not a bothersome distraction, though sometimes objects appear slightly edgy. This simply lovely picture should not be missed!
