Story Synopsis:
Tightwad aspiring novelist Miles Raymond (Giamatti) has planned a sophisticated weeklong wine country trip for his buddy Jack (Church), who is getting married. At first, the two delve into the fine art of wine-tasting, but Jack really wants to just get drunk. The trip finally goes Sideways, when Jack decides to have a last hurrah with the first available bachelorette. Aggravated, Miles must learn to loosen up, while Jack learns a lesson in morality. Based on the book by Rex Pickett. (Suzanne Hodges)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVD picture has an intentionally soft, hazy appearance. Colors are nicely balanced with accurate fleshtones and understated, but natural hues. Blacks are generally deep throughout. There is some film grain noticed in the source element, but nothing too distracting. Minor edge enhancement is apparent on occasion, and there is also some occasional pixelization. Overall, the picture is satisfying and suitable for the storytelling. (Suzanne Hodges)
