DVD Picture:
This period drama, presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, exhibits a slightly soft, somewhat washed out image that tends to be complementary to the subject matter by creating a dated appearance. There is even a gritty texture provided by inherent film grain in the source element that contributes to the dated look. Colors can be warm and nicely balanced, though blacks are slightly weak and milky. Though the picture is soft at times, details can be nicely rendered, and textures are quite satisfying. There are very slight blurry edge halos noticed, and occasional pixelization. (Suzanne Hodges)
