Story Synopsis:
There's not much in Odessa, Texas to get excited about. Nothing, that is, but their championship high school football team. On "Friday Night" when the kids get out on the field under the "Lights," there's plenty of excitement in the air. Coach Gaines (Thornton) is determined to make this year another winning season but the pressure on the boys, both on the field and off, guarantee that he's got his work cut out for him. Based on a true story, which took place in west Texas, 1988 and on the book by H. G. Bissinger. (Tricia Littrell)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD picture exhibits a stylish, gritty appearance that is visually complementary to the football action and drama. Colors are striking, with natural fleshtones, rich hues, and deep blacks. The busy handheld camerawork can be a bit sickening on larger home theatre displays, as the movement continues even when the action is minimal. Smearing and loss of finer details is occasionally noticed, as is some pixel breakup. However, edge enhancement is not much of a problem with this picture. (Suzanne Hodges)
