Story Synopsis:
During the Great Depression in Canada, the legless beer baroness Lady Port-Huntly (Rossellini) announces a contest calling a search for The Saddest Music In The World, with the hopes that it will increase the sales of her ale. Fantastically filmed with the look and sound of movies from a nearly-forgotten era, this unforgettable musical drama
DVD Picture:
Viewers will easily be fooled into believing that this anamorphically enhanced DVD picture is sourced from 70-year-old film elements. However, the look is intentional and perfectly depicts the storytelling with black-and-white images that are extremely soft, blurry, and especially gritty with inherent film grain from the source element. There are occasional scenes with washed-out monochromatic blue color. This DVD delivers the incredibly artistic picture as it is supposed to appear, with no obtrusive edge enhancement and only minor pixel breakup. (Suzanne Hodges)
