Includes audio commentary by director Irwin Winkler and actor Kevin Kline, an additional commentary track by Winkler and writer Jay Cocks, four featurettes (a 26-minute Making Of De-Lovely, the 15-minute Music Of De-Lovely, and two Anatomy Of A Scene segments), nine deleted scenes, a soundtrack promo, the theatrical trailer, and bonus trailers.
Story Synopsis:
While watching a rehearsal of the musical of his life, Cole Porter (Kline) reflects on the highs and lows that brought him to where he is today. From the first time he met the beautiful Linda (Judd), he was captivated by her and she him. Linda married Porter, even while she knew he was gay, and the two gave each other something they both craved. As Porter's indiscretions grew, so did Linda's frustrations, but they stayed together to the bittersweet end. De-Lovely is told cleverly as the film switches back and forth between the stage musical and the older Porter's memories. (Tricia Littrell)
DVD Picture:
Opening with a dark and moody scene, blacks appear especially deep, but undefined on this anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD. As the lighting shifts, the color scheme is revealed to be fairly well balanced, if still a bit undefined. Fleshtones are nicely rendered and hues appear quite rich. The picture can appear a bit soft, though some scenes are very nicely detailed. There is some film grain and a few flecks of dirt noticed in the source element, but nothing that would be considered excessive. Edge enhancement and pixelization can be a problem with this DVD, as the variable bit rate often stays on the low end. (Suzanne Hodges)
