DVD Picture:
While the previously released DVD (reviewed in Issue 34) was not anamorphic, this new 10th Anniversary edition is anamorphically enhanced for widescreen televisions and exhibits the 1.85:1 black-and-white picture with the best quality yet available for home viewing. Sharpness varies from acceptable to somewhat blurry, and details are pretty minimal. Film grain and artifacts are inherent in the 16mm source element. There is some pixelization noticed, but edge enhancement is not a problem. Followers of this classic Kevin Smith comedy will be delighted with the picture quality of Clerks. (Suzanne Hodges)
