DVD Picture:
Compared to the previously released non-anamorphic DVD reviewed in Issue 31, this new anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVD picture looks much cleaner and sharper by comparison. The Laszlo Kovacs cinematography has a soft hazy characteristic, but details remain nicely rendered. Dirt and film grain are inherent in the source element, providing a gritty texture to the picture. Only occasionally are edge halos noticed, and pixelization is limited to minor detail breakup and slight shimmering distractions at times. (Suzanne Hodges)
