Joining up with a band of traveling actors led by Martin (Dafoe), the group find themselves in a small village. There they discover that a mute woman (Minguez) has been accused of murder and is sentenced to death. Convinced that she is innocent, Martin proposes to tell her story on stage. And the mystery they uncover is one of greed, temptation, and mortal sin in The Reckoning. Adapted from the novel Morality Play by Barry Unsworth. (Tricia Littrell)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD picture exhibits images that are stylized in a desaturated color palette. The picture has a cold appearance with lots of blues and grays, and many scenes take place in cold or snowy settings. Fleshtones are nicely balanced and blacks are generally deep. Images can have a soft, hazy appearance, but details are adequate. Edge enhancement is occasionally noticed, but is not terribly bothersome, and there is limited pixelization. (Suzanne Hodges)
