DVD Picture:
As with Kill Bill Vol. 1, Quentin Tarantino has created a stylish movie with black-and-white scenes as well as color, and this 2.40:1 DVD is anamorphically enhanced with excellent picture quality. For the black-and-white sequences, the gray scale is well balanced, nicely contrasted, and quite clean. Colors are vibrantly saturated, with especially bold reds, as well as accurate fleshtones and deep blacks. On occasion, there are flecks of dirt or minor film grain noticed in the source element. The biggest problem with this title, however, is the presence of edge enhancement, which can be bothersome at times. Some minor pixelization is noticed as well, but the picture is mostly solid and smooth. (Suzanne Hodges)
