The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 picture exhibits pleasing images with satisfying sharpness and detail, though some scenes have a slightly blurry appearance. The color palette varies to support the tone of certain scenes, with the war footage presented in dark, gloomy hues; while many scenes on the journey to Cold Mountain are warm and welcoming. This soundtrack is much more aggressive than originally anticipated with some great sonics throughout. The Civil War setting in which these characters live could be brutal, and this soundtrack accurately reflects some of that brutality sonically. The first three chapters of this soundtrack (during the main battle scene) engage all 5.1-channels effectively and completely immerses the listener.
