Disc One of this two-disc set includes the movie with no supplements, but Disc Two is rich with "Time Bandits" features. There is a 27-minute interview with Michael Palin and Terry Gilliam; a very entertaining and informative 58-minute "The Directors" special on Terry Gilliam and his films; the international and U.S. trailers; a bio for Gilliam; and the screenplay in PDF format, accessible via your PC
DVD Picture:
While both previous DVD releases of Time Bandits were not anamorphically enhanced, this new 1.85:1 DVD edition is presented with an anamorphic widescreen picture that not only offers higher resolution, but also better color fidelity. The previous DVD pictures were a bit ruddy, but this new DVD offers a more balanced color scheme, with whiter whites, more natural fleshtones, and deeper blacks. The picture is sharp and nicely detailed, with better depth and definition than the previous editions. Contrast and shadow delineation are also quite satisfying. A few problems come in the way of pixelization and occasional edge enhancement. There are a few scenes that have a softer, slightly hazy appearance. Overall, fans should be satisfied with this new DVD. (Suzanne Hodges)
