Story Synopsis:
A kindly, yet strong-willed chauffeur named Hoke Colburn (Freeman) has spent 25 years "Driving Miss Daisy" Werthan (Tandy) to and from her social gatherings ever since she put her car in reverse instead of drive. The two become faithful companions despite racial and social differences. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Alfred Uhry, this picture won four Academy Awards
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78:1 DVD (previously released on DVD in a full screen-only version) exhibits a very soft, hazy picture that is visually complementary to the storytelling. Colors nicely represent the Southern setting of the film, with warm, well balanced hues, natural fleshtones, and deep blacks. Contrast can seem a bit low at times, but shadow delineation is satisfying. Pixelization is occasionally noticed breaking up finer details, but edge enhancement is not much of a problem with this title. Minor film grain, dirt, and artifacts are inherent in the source element. (Suzanne Hodges)
