This two-disc set includes the widescreen version of the film on Disc One, with the addition of audio commentary by director James Foley and the 30-minute "Magic Time: A Tribute To Jack Lemmon." Disc Two includes the full screen version and a good selection of additional features, beginning with an additional audio commentary which can be played selectively by selecting one of the four participants (cinematographer Juan Ruiz Anchia, actor Alec Baldwin, actor Alan Arkin, or production designer Jane Musky) or played as one commentary. There is also the 30-minute featurette "ABC: Always Be Closing," a 10-minute mini-documentary "J. Roy New And Used Furniture," a 10-minute clip from "The Charlie Rose Show," a superb two-minute clip from Inside The Actors Studio (in which Kevin Spacey agrees to read a scene with a student who is so excited his hands are trembling) cast and crew biographies, and production notes.
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD exhibits a smooth, clean picture, with richly saturated hues, accurate fleshtones, and excellent blacks. Images are sharp, with pleasing details and definition. Contrast and shadow delineation are very well balanced. Edge enhancement is the biggest offense with this picture, appearing around tables, chairs, and characters throughout, but pixelization is minor. (Suzanne Hodges)A modified 1.33:1 fullscreen version (not reviewed) appears on Disc Two.
