DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78:1 DVD exhibits an opera of generally pleasing image quality. While wide shots of the stage appear undefined and soft, closer shots of the actors reveal satisfying detail. Definition and clarity are generally lacking, as much of the picture relies on shots of the stage to capture group performances. Colors are nicely balanced, with accurate fleshtones, but the blacks of the tuxedos and backgrounds seem a bit weak. Props and costumes occasionally create aliasing problems, and edge enhancement and pixelization are noticed. (Suzanne Hodges)
