DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD exhibits a picture that is quite satisfying, with images that can be sharp and detailed or softly focused and nostalgic. Colors appear to be well balanced, with nicely rendered fleshtones, deep blacks. However, sometimes the picture appears plugged-up with smeared hues. Contrast seems a bit low on occasion, but shadow delineation is nicely rendered. Edge enhancement is noticed on occasion, as well as pixelization. (Suzanne Hodges)
Soundtrack:
The 5.1-channel soundtracks are a little substantial in terms of overall volume level. Nonetheless, these audio presentations make good use of dimension with music and effects, sometimes even to a slightly exaggerated extent. Voices sound abundantly natural with good spatial integration. Imaging across the screen is enveloping, and surrounds are engaged liberally, though could sometimes benefit from a little moderation.
