Dear Gary:Theatre: noun (from Greek thea the act of seeing) Definition c: A building or area for showing motion pictures. (Merriam-Webster).A man walks into a bar and asks for scotch on the rocks and gets the house brand booze. Another man walks in and orders “Laphroig on the rocks.” Can there be any doubt that they are both drinking scotch?I took my kids to a movie theatre (no raised pinkie!) to see a blockbuster movie recorded in one of the contemporary surround sound formats. I was a little miffed to discover that this particular movie-plex was playing it in mono. MONO! Were we in a theatre?Skip the semantics, Mr. Mardo (Readers’ Letters, Issue 94, March 2005).Mr. Reber, such a gracious reply to Mr. Mardo but we can see Mr. Mardo’s pinkie way high from a mile away. It serves little purpose to attempt to define what a “home theatre” is other than help Mr. Mardo to be able to say (to his friends) that what most people have, in comparison to his system, is “not.”A wise man once proffered that the answer is contained in the question. I do not see a glint of the search for enlightenment in Mr. Mardo’s question.
