Krell Evolution 3250e Are Now Shipping!

By Gary Reber

Boasting technology sourced from their award winning larger siblings, the new Krell amplifiers provide the immense power and refined performance that are the hallmarks of every Krell amplifier.  Sharing the same advanced high speed output devices, massive power supplies, and unique Krell Current Mode circuitry, the Evolution 2250e and 3250e amplifiers deliver performance that was previously reserved for products costing far more. The amplifiers retail for $8,000 and $10,000, respectively.

Circuitry Highlights

Sophisticated and expensive to execute, surface mount circuitry is featured throughout gracing the design with short circuit path lengths, vanishing parasitic capacitance and improved bandwidth. Alone, the Evolution 2250e is ideal for use in stereo music systems. When coupled to the three channel Evolution 3250e, this duo makes ideal amplification for home theater applications.

Prodigious Power Coupled To Low Energy Draw

Blessed with a
power supply outfitted with a 2,500 VA power transformer and 136,000 µF of capacitance, the Evolution 2250e is a powerhouse.  Power output of 250 W per channel into 8 ohms and 500 W per channel into 4 ohms will drive any loudspeaker to its full dynamic capability. The Evolution 3250e design uses the same power transformer but with additional capacitance, 163,200 µF total, insuring full performance when all three channels are being called upon simultaneously. An additional transformer for control and protection circuitry also provides power for a new energy efficient standby mode. Similar to turning off a 150W light that is always on in your house; standby power draw is only 2W. This 99% reduction in electrical usage also reduces heat output substantially. The high-current and high-voltage analog supplies have additional noise filtration circuitry to reduce high-frequency switching noise.

Smaller, Elegant Chassis

Housed in elegant silver or black brushed anodized Aluminum, the Evolution 2250e and Evolution 3250e are the smallest amplifiers in the Evolution e Series. Featuring a 4U (7” High) profile, the new amplifiers bring prodigious power
to applications requiring smaller amplifiers without sacrificing sonic performance.  The stylish Aluminum faceplate features the blue power ring and low draw standby mode shared by all Evolution e Series amplifiers.

Reason #11 Why Readers Love Widescreen Review:

It's really quite simple; the main reason that I read Widescreen Review is because of the overall quality of content and the fact that I can rely upon the writers to provide an open-minded presentation of cutting edge technology as it unfolds in “real time.” I read Widescreen Review to stay informed, entertained, and to learn valuable facts that have the added benefit of saving me money through empowering me to make wise decisions regarding the features and capabilities of the equipment I choose to purchase. While my home theatre is modest, I admire, and am inspired by Widescreen Review's dedication to speaking of and working towards a golden standard for the reproduction of video in the home. I may not be able to afford the very top-of-the-line components, yet with proper information I have found that there is no reason to settle for anything less than the best than I can afford. I choose to read Widescreen Review because of the clarity of its purpose, as well as the consistent delivery of its mission and message. I enjoy reading it every month, it saves me money, and it makes me a more informed consumer with every passing issue. You really say it all in your title “The Essential Home Theatre Resource” and deliver on your promise with intelligent passion inside each issue. Every consumer responds to good value, and that's what I find in the combination of the information I learn, the money I save, and the manner in which I am entertained rather than sold to. Thanks for the fine job that you all do, I appreciate it and so do those I've shared your publication with.
